Yesterday morning (6/11/2008) I was updating my Google Local Business listing for HugaMonkey. Google has provided fields for me to upload pictures, link to YouTube videos and provide general details about the the business. All of this was easy to use. Try it, search Google for baby slings orem.
The last step in the process was to validate my business listing, Google making sure I have authority to modify HugaMonkey’s business listing. When I clicked next I was presented with a screen telling me that Google would be calling to validate my listing. They gave me the option of being called immediately or to schedule a time.
I chose to be called immediately. After clicking to be called a PIN was generated and my cellular phone immediately began to ring! The automated caller asked me to enter the 4 digit pin as displayed on the screen. This I did and the screen immediately updated and said, “Thank you, your business has been validated.”
How refreshing it is to be the recipient of appropriately designed technology. As a business owner I definitely want some verification involved with a business listing. The problem is that most other companies who require validation improperly use technology making the process tiresome, problematic and cumbersome in a way that technology gets in the way. Technology should be making processes like validating a business more simple and more secure.
Thanks to Google for making the validation process so simple and functional. Add your business to Google Local and Google Maps.
