A Lesson Learned - Keep Your Domains

Posted in

Back in 2004 (wow it seems like a long time ago). I created a couple of self help web sites. One was called My Computer Training and the other was called Student Loan Review. I'm not going to provide the links because the people who own the URL's now have put up some lame-o click-on-all-these-ads-and-make-me-some-money sites. Which are deplorable.

I worked my butt off when I owned the domains, 2004-2005, to really build up the Google page rank and establish the sites as very relevant for my target audience. My Computer Training had a 5/10 rank and Student Loan Review was a 4/10.

Then, because I was so focused on building a financial planning practice (which I sucked at), I just let the domains expire! What a silly thing to do - but that's supposed to be the best way to learn, right, making dumb mistakes.

Well I'm pretty miffed with myself right now, but I'll get over it soon.

I've had so many ideas of late where I could have really leveraged the value these sites would have provided.
